An original and extremely rare medal in excellent condition. St. Petersburg Mint. The diameter is 28 mm. Silver, stamping. The shoe and ribbon are newly made. In the center of the obverse of the medal is the profile of Emperor Alexander II, facing to the right. This is an early version of the portrait by the medallist R. R. Hanneman (the initials "RG" are visible on the neck edge). Around the circle there is a text in the Old Slavonic language: "B. M. ALEXANDER II IMP. AND SAMOD. VSEROSS." ("By the Grace of God, Alexander II, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia"). On the smooth reverse is the inscription "For the salvation of the dead." The medal was awarded to people of all classes for exploits of humanity. It was given for saving people in situations where the savior himself seriously risked his life: during fires, during the rescue of drowning people, during natural disasters. Medals of the reign of Alexander II are extremely rare. Guarantee of authenticity.
