History

Pyotr Selverstovich Sereda (December 3, 1917 — December 7, 1984) was a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Major General of aviation in the reserve. Hero of the Soviet Union. Lieutenant Sereda has been on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. Already on September 6, 1941, for 110 combat sorties, destroyed 3 German aircraft personally and 1 in a group, he was presented with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, but his award was replaced by the Order of Lenin. By July 1942, Captain Sereda, squadron commander of the 88th Fighter Aviation Regiment (216th Fighter Aviation Division, 4th Air Army, Transcaucasian Front), had flown 270 combat missions to scout and attack enemy personnel and equipment, and shot down 7 enemy aircraft (personally and in a group) in 60 aerial battles. and I burned 2 more during attacks on enemy airfields. During aerial reconnaissance on July 19, 1942, having the task to reconnoiter the situation in the conditions of a deep breakthrough of enemy troops into the location of the 9th Army, he discovered a column of Red Army soldiers from the air and sat down on the field next to them. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a column of captured Red Army soldiers, accompanied by German guards, who opened fire on the pilot. Sereda received 4 bullet wounds, but managed to climb into the cockpit of the fighter and take off, and upon his return, he reported the results of the reconnaissance.


By Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On awarding the title of Hero of the Soviet Union to the commanding staff of the Red Army" dated November 23, 1942, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for "exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and his bravery and heroism." From August 26, 1942 to March 9, 1943, he commanded the 84th "A" Fighter Aviation Regiment (4th Air Army, North Caucasian Front). Since 1943, he has been an inspector of the Main Directorate of Combat Training of the Red Army Air Force. He continued to fly in this staff position. So, in February—April 1945, during a business trip to the 181st Fighter Aviation Division on the 1st Ukrainian Front, he completed 30 combat missions, conducted 7 air battles and shot down 3 aircraft personally. By May 1945, Guards Major Sereda had completed about 500 sorties, shot down 8 enemy aircraft personally and 6 in a group. He burned 2 more planes during the attack on enemy airfields.
