History

Andrey Egorovich Borovykh (October 30, 1921, Kursk — November 7, 1989, Moscow) was a Soviet military pilot and military commander, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1943, 1945), Colonel-General of aviation (1968). Commander of the aviation of the USSR Air Defense Forces (1969-1977).


During the two years of the war (1942 and 1943), he flew 341 combat missions on the Kalinin and Central Fronts, demonstrating courage and bravery in air battles, personally shot down 12 enemy aircraft and 14 aircraft in a group. For these feats, the flight commander of the 157th Fighter Aviation Regiment (273rd Fighter Aviation Division, 6th Fighter Aviation Corps, 16th Air Army, Central Front), Junior Lieutenant Andrei Borovykh, was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on August 24, 1943, with the award of the Order of Lenin. and the Gold Star medal (No. 1077).


Squadron Commander of the 157th Fighter Aviation Regiment (234th Fighter Aviation Division, 6th Fighter Aviation Corps, 16th Air Army, 1st Belorussian Front) for exemplary performance of the command's tasks, 132 more successful sorties, in which 19 enemy aircraft were shot down, and heroism Captain Borovykh Andrey Egorovich was awarded the second Gold Star Medal of the Hero of the Soviet Union (No. 62) by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 23, 1945.


During the war, he flew more than 470 combat missions, conducted over 130 aerial battles, and shot down 32 enemy aircraft personally and 14 in a group. According to the research of M. Y. Bykov, the distribution of personal and group victories of an outstanding ace according to the accounting and operational documents of his regiment is somewhat different — 27 personal and 17 group victories.


After the end of the Great Patriotic War, he commanded an aviation regiment, division, and corps. In 1951 he graduated from the Air Force Academy[3], and in 1957 from the Higher Military Academy. From 1959 to 1969, he commanded aviation formations. In 1968, he was awarded the military rank of Colonel General of Aviation. In 1969-1977, he was the commander of the aviation of the USSR Air Defense Forces. From 1977 to 1988, he was a military consultant at the Institute of Military History of the USSR Ministry of Defense. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 2nd convocation. Honored Military Pilot of the USSR (1966). He is the author of scientific articles "New technology, weapons and man" (1972), "Reliable Shield of the Motherland" (1985) and others. He died on November 7, 1989 in Moscow. The circumstances of the death are not entirely clear. A journalistic version was published that he was killed by hooligans. In an interview, a friend of the Borovs, General N. I. Moskvitelev, claims that Andrei Egorovich went to the store on a holiday and died of a stroke on the street; the body was not immediately identified. He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery.
