Sergey Fyodorovich Ushakov (June 11, 1908 — March 13, 1986) was a Soviet military figure, navigator, colonel-General of aviation, participant in the Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars. Hero of the Soviet Union (1943). He joined the Red Army in 1930, and joined the CPSU (b) the following year. In 1935 he graduated from the Voronezh School of Pilots, and in 1941 from the Poltava Advanced Training courses for Air Force navigators. Participated in the Soviet-Finnish war. He demonstrated the brilliant qualities of a skilled navigator in battles with the Finns. He flew 14 effective combat missions, for which he received the rank of captain ahead of schedule.
He participated in the Great Patriotic War since July 1941. He led a squadron of four-engine bombers deep behind enemy lines to defeat military installations in Danzig, Konigsberg, Tilsit, Bucharest, Warsaw and Soviet cities occupied by the enemy. He was known in the regiment as a highly qualified navigator, who had mastered all methods of flying perfectly, and an excellent bombardier.
In March 1943, S. F. Ushakov completed a special government assignment. He was included as a navigator in the crew of Lieutenant Colonel E. K. Pusep (captain Rodnykh was the co-pilot, Sergei Romanov, who had already flown with Pusep before), whose plane delivered the delegation of the Soviet government to Great Britain and flew back to Moscow. The assignment was a state secret — it was necessary to deliver a government package to King George VI of Great Britain. The route, unknown to the navigator, ran over both the war zones and the polar silence. Ushakov did an excellent job on a particularly important assignment. By May 1943, the navigator of the 746th Aviation Regiment squadron, Lieutenant Colonel Ushakov, had made 94 night sorties to bombard important targets deep behind enemy lines, as well as his troops. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 27, 1943, Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Fyodorovich Ushakov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his exemplary performance of command combat missions and his courage and heroism.
From September 1943 to May 1945, he was Assistant Chief Navigator of long-range aviation. In 1949 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff. Chief navigator of Long-Range Aviation (1952-1956). Chief of Staff — First Deputy Commander of Long-Range Aviation (04/29/1957 — 07/20/1959). Since 1967, he has been the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the USSR Air Force. In 1971, Sergey Fedorovich joined the reserve with the rank of Colonel-General of aviation. He lived in Moscow. He became the author of the book "In the interests of All Fronts", which was published in Moscow in 1982. He lived in Moscow at the General's House on Leningradsky Prospekt, 75, and since 1954 at Smolenskaya Embankment, 5/13. He died on March 13, 1986. He was buried in Moscow at the Kuntsevo cemetery (plot 9-2).
