Description

The original medal is in good collector's condition. Silver, stamping. The medal of the reign of Nicholas II (1894-1917), on the obverse there is a profile portrait of the emperor. A circular legend runs around the circumference in Church Slavonic (old Russian): "B.M. NICHOLAS II, EMPEROR AND AUTOCRAT of ALL RUSSIA" ("By God's grace, Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia"). In the center of the reverse there is an inscription in four lines: "FOR BRAVERY", below is the serial number of the award 672838 (105 artillery brigade, bombardier Babich Philip Afanasievich. The difference has not been established. The order to the Headquarters of the 32nd Army Corps No. 162 dated 08.10.1916) and the degree — "4th STEP." This is a state award of the Russian Empire, which was awarded to lower ranks (soldiers and non-commissioned officers), as well as civilians for their courage in combat. Guarantee of authenticity.

History

The St. George Medal is a medal of the Russian Empire with the inscription "For Bravery", established on August 10, 1913 (instead of the previously established medals "For Bravery" for irregular troops and for border guards) and assigned to the Military Order of St. George the Great Martyr and Victorious. The medal had 4 degrees and was intended for awarding lower ranks (privates and non-commissioned officers) for military services in peacetime and wartime, which were not legally suitable for awarding the George Cross.
