Bulgaria. Set of badges of the Order of St. Alexander, 2nd class

Silver, enamel, moire; gilding. A rare set in the domestic market in excellent collector's condition. The kit includes:

• Order badge (cross): A white enameled cross topped with a royal crown. Between the crown and the cross are two crossed Bulgarian Hussar helmets, which is typical for versions for civil merit or personal favor.

• Order star: An eight-pointed silver star. In the center of the star and the cross is a red enameled medallion with the inscription "St. ALEXANDER" in Slavic script. The medallion is surrounded by a white ring with the golden motto of the order: "GOD IS WITH US."

• Ribbon to the cross.

Guarantee of authenticity. It's rare.

The Order was established on December 25, 1881 (January 6, 1882) by decree of Prince Alexander Battenberg. It is named after the patron saint of the prince, the holy Prince Alexander Nevsky. It was intended to reward military and civilians for public services, bravery, or as a sign of the monarch's personal favor. The Order continued to exist after the proclamation of Bulgaria as a kingdom in 1908, but was finally abolished by the Communist government in 1948.
