An original and very prestigious award of the interwar period, awarded to Red Army soldiers and commanders for outstanding achievements in fire training. The sign is based on a five-pointed red star, the lower rays of which are noticeably elongated. In the foreground there is a figure of a fighter in a greatcoat and a characteristic headdress — a Budyonnovka. A soldier is firing a Mosin rifle with a fixed bayonet. The famous Maxim machine gun on Sokolov's machine is schematically depicted to the right of the fighter. In the background, in the center of the sign, there is a white circle with a golden hammer and sickle. At the bottom, the figure is encircled by a curly ribbon with the inscription "FOR EXCELLENT SHOOTING" in relief. Loss of the upper corner of the badge and part of the bayonet of the rifle, repair of the enamel on the upper beam. Guarantee of authenticity.
The first version of the excellent marksman badge in the Soviet armed forces appeared back in 1922. The type shown in the photo was officially introduced by order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the USSR on November 5, 1928. The badge was made of bronze or brass with hot enamel. There were various versions: all-stamped and prefabricated (where the fighter's figure or other elements were mounted separately on rivets). This award was actively awarded until the end of the 1930s, when it was replaced by a new type of badge "For excellent shooting" (with the image of a round target).
