The badge "For Excellent Shooting" of the 1928 model is a badge established in the Red Army to reward Red Army soldiers and commanders for success in combat training, in particular, for marksmanship. The badge "For excellent shooting" appeared on November 5, 1926 – this decision was made by the Revolutionary Military Council. This badge was needed to reward the best infantry and cavalrymen of the Red Army. First-year soldiers were awarded a silver badge, and second–year soldiers were awarded a gold badge. On November 5, 1928, according to the results of the announced design competition, the Revolutionary Military Council (RVSR) of the USSR approved a new model of insignia. The sign has acquired great artistic expression. Now the composition of the sign was a five-pointed star, on the left side of which there was a full-length relief figure of a Red Army soldier in a Budenovka and an overcoat, holding a three-line rifle at the ready.
