The original sign is in good collector's condition. The size is 27*27 mm. The sign is a diamond-shaped tablet made of red metal with a relief grid applied to it. The space between the cells is filled with black enamel. A white stripe with the inscription "For excellent artillery shooting" is laid along the perimeter of the figure. The sign's overlay consists of three elements: a red star with radiant notches radiating from the center to the sides, two crossed gun barrels and binoculars located at the very base of the sign. The reverse is slightly concave. The fastening is screw-type due to the nut. Minor damage to the enamel. Guarantee of authenticity.
The badge "For excellent artillery shooting" was established on the initiative of the Red Army, or rather, the Main Artillery Directorate of the structure. In mid-August 1936, the People's Commissar of Defense established this measure to encourage gunners' shooting achievements. The awards were given to representatives of the commanding, commanding and enlisted personnel. The first awarded individuals received tokens at the Luga training ground in October of the same year. It was the highest profile award for the artillery of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. During the Great Patriotic War, the awarding of the badge "For excellent artillery shooting" did not stop, but the circle of people changed – they became students of military schools, as well as home front gunners. The first signs were made with numbers, and a certificate was attached to them. Subsequently, they began to produce tokens without numbers. The final discontinuation of production took place in 1962. In April, an order was issued by the Ministry of Defense, according to which the award of the badge "For excellent artillery firing" was discontinued.
