The badge "Excellent Student of the Red Army" is a badge established on November 14, 1939 by resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR No. 1889. The badge was awarded to the Red Army soldiers of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army for excellent combat and political training, excellent service and exemplary discipline. The badge was awarded by order of the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR after the end of the study periods, as well as on the anniversary of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army on February 23, on the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution on November 7, and on the Day of International Workers' Solidarity on May 1. Particularly distinguished soldiers were presented with the badge immediately. The badge was awarded in front of the formation of the unit, the recipient received an extract from the relevant order of the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR. The fact of the award was recorded in the personal file of the serviceman. The sign is a golden oval, framed in the upper part by oak and laurel leaves and in the lower part by ears of corn. In the center of the oval, against the background of the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin, there is a fighter with a rifle at the ready. Under it is a semicircular ribbon covered with red enamel, with the inscription "Excellent student of the Red Army". The first two hundred badges were awarded in May 1940 to the excellent students of the combat and political training of the F. E. Dzerzhinsky division.
