On January 6, 1943, the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On the introduction of shoulder straps for the personnel of the Red Army" was signed, announced by the order of the NGO No. 24 of 10.01.1943. On January 15, 1943, the order of the NGO of the USSR No. 25 "On the introduction of new insignia and changes in the uniform of the Red Army" was issued. By Order of the NCO of the USSR No. 79 of 02/14/1943, shoulder straps were installed for the higher, senior and middle engineering and technical personnel of the communications troops, engineering, chemical, railway, topographic troops and administrative personnel.
Field shoulder straps were to be worn by servicemen in the active army and personnel of units being prepared for sending to the front. The field of field shoulder straps has always been khaki. Shoulder straps were edged (sheathed) at the edges, except for the bottom, with colored cloth edging. According to the assigned military rank, belonging to the branch of the armed forces or service, insignia were placed on the field of shoulder straps: asterisks, gaps and emblems. On the shoulder straps of the middle command staff – one clearance and silver–plated metal stars; on the shoulder straps of the senior command staff - two gaps and the same stars, but larger. The number of stars on the chase corresponded to the military rank. On the shoulder straps of the command staff, in addition to the infantry command staff, silver-plated emblems were installed according to the type of troops, service.
These shoulder straps existed until the end of 1946, when the Technical specifications of the Technical Specifications of the SSU No. 1486 dated 9.10.1946 for officers of the Armed Forces, shoulder straps with the upper part were installed on the model of shoulder straps of generals and Navy officers – with a cut corner vertex: the upper part of the shoulder straps became an isosceles trapezoid, and the shoulder straps became hexagonal.
