Stalingrad is a two—part widescreen military historical epic feature film of 1989 by Soviet film director and screenwriter Yuri Ozerov, shot jointly by cinematographers of the USSR and the USA, with the participation of cinematographers of the GDR and Czechoslovakia. It is dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad (July 17, 1942 — February 2, 1943), a decisive battle that marked the beginning of a radical turning point during the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War in general. It is the final film of Yuri Ozerov's cycle of film epics about the Great Patriotic War (Liberation (1968-1972), Soldiers of Freedom (1977), The Battle for Moscow (1985)). Based on the film materials of this film and other film epics, later Yuri Ozerov created the feature films "Angels of Death" (1993) and "The Great Commander Georgy Zhukov" (1995), as well as the television series "The Tragedy of the Century" (1993-1994).
