Stepan Leonidovich Kuznetsov (January 2 (14), 1879, Chisinau, Bessarabia province — April 18, 1932, Moscow) was a Russian and Soviet theater actor, actor of the Solovtsov Theater in Kiev, the Moscow Art Theater and the Maly Theater, People's Artist of the Republic (1929). Stepan Leonidovich Kuznetsov was born into the family of a former serf peasant cook who kept buffets at theaters. Later, his father became the owner of a theater in Odessa, but went bankrupt after two seasons. Due to the fact that the family was in need, Stepan Kuznetsov's education was limited to a parochial school, from a young age he worked as a clerk in bookstores. In 1901, Kuznetsov entered the professional scene for the first time in Orel, but in 1902-1906 he had to serve military service; while in Manchuria, he participated in the Russian-Japanese war. Then he returned to the stage and in 1907-1908 he performed at the Solovtsov Theater in Kiev. In 1908, he moved to Moscow and joined the troupe of the Moscow Art Theater, where he worked until 1910. Later, the most vivid period of his work was associated with work at the Solovtsov Theater (1912-1919, with interruptions). From 1923 to 1925 he served at the Moscow Theater named after MGSPS. On February 4, 1925, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Republic, and on December 1, 1925, he moved to the Maly Theater. According to NKVD intelligence data, according to the wife of Professor G. N. Speransky, he died as a result of vaccination according to the method of I. N. Kazakov: "... death as a result of Cossack vaccination of the famous artist Stepan Kuznetsov ..." The urn with the ashes of the actor is buried in the building of the former Don crematorium in Moscow (now the church of Seraphim of Sarov and Anna Kashinskaya on the new Donskoy cemetery).
