Gennady Vasilievich Sredin (August 5, 1917, Kazan — August 19, 1991, Moscow) was a Soviet military figure, political worker. Head of the Military-Political Academy named after V. I. Lenin (1981-1987), Colonel-General (4.11.1973). Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 7th-8th convocations. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR of the 9th-10th convocations. Candidate for membership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the USSR in 1971-1976. Professor. He was born in Kazan in the family of Vasily Dmitrievich (born 9.2. 1882 old style) and Maria Ivanovna (born 1893) Sredin. He studied at secondary school No. 1 in Kozmodemyansk, Mari ASSR, supervised the work of the pioneer and Komsomol organization of the school.
In 1935-1940 he was a student of the aircraft building Faculty of the Kazan Aviation Institute, secretary of the Komsomol Committee of the Institute. He graduated from four courses. He served as a regimental agitator of the 600th Rifle Regiment of the 147th Rifle Division of the 2nd Shock Army of the Volkhov Front, an agitator of the political department of the 27th Army. Since 1945 — in the political administration of the Carpathian military District. He worked as deputy head of the Political Department of the district.

Then (until 1967) — member of the Military Council — head of the Political Department of the Southern Group of Soviet Troops. In December 1967 — July 1972 — Member of the Military Council — Head of the Political Department of the Carpathian Military District. In 1972-1974 — Deputy Head of the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and Navy of the USSR. In 1974-1981 — 1st Deputy Head of the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and Navy of the USSR. In 1981-1987 — Head of the Military-Political Academy named after V. I. Lenin. Since 1987, he has been retired. He was deputy chairman of the Soviet Committee of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
Wife — Zinaida Nikolaevna (1919-2010), daughter — Galina (1947-2004). The author of the memoirs "The Great Victory. (1941-1945)" and "On guard of great conquests". He lived in Moscow. He died on August 19, 1991. He was buried at the Troyekurovsky cemetery.
