History

In June 1931, the first secretary of the Moscow Committee of the CPSU (b), L. M. Kaganovich, promoted at the party plenum the decision to urgently build a subway. In November 1931, the City Committee presented a draft of the Moscow metro lines. The first stage of construction was approved: from Sokolniki to the future site of the Palace of Soviets (Cathedral of Christ the Savior) and from Smolenskaya Square to the library. Lenin Street. The Moscow Metro was opened on May 15, 1935. At 5:48 a.m., the current was turned on in the subway and 4 minutes later the first train left the depot. At 6:45 a.m., the doors of the above-ground lobbies opened. The launch complex included 11.5 km of highway, 13 stations and 14 trains. The first stage went from Sokolniki station to Park Kultury station, with a branch to Smolenskaya. On September 10, 1935, the technical design and general estimate for the construction of the second stage of the Moscow Metro, carried out by the Metroproject team, was completed and submitted for approval to the People's Commissariat of Industry of the USSR. The design of the second stage of the metro fully takes into account and reflects the experience of the construction and operation of the 1st stage of the metro and introduces a number of significant changes and improvements both in terms of design and methods of organization, mechanization and production of work.
