In the early fifties, millions of supporters of peace in our country and abroad signed the First Stockholm Proclamation "On the Prohibition of the Use of Atomic Weapons," which played an important role in maintaining peace on Earth. Despite the fact that it was a difficult time after the war, many Soviet people began to send donations on their own initiative to fight for peace. On April 27, 1961, at the initiative of the public, a public organization, the Soviet Peace Foundation, was established to strictly account for such receipts and control their spending. The Peace Foundation has never had budget money, the main sources of the Fund's funds are charitable donations from citizens, enterprises, and public organizations. The founders of the Soviet Peace Foundation, along with the Soviet Committee for the Protection of Peace, were the Committee of Youth Organizations of the USSR, the Committee of Soviet Women, and the Union of Soviet Societies for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries. The famous poet Nikolai Tikhonov became the first Chairman of the Board of the Soviet Peace Foundation.
