Until the mid-1990s, only two systematic reference books on Russian breastplates were published: "Breastplates of the Russian Army" by S. Andolenko (Paris, 1966) and "Breastplates of Imperial Russia" by R. Verlich and S. Andolenko (New York, 1976), and the second is a significantly expanded version of the first. Both reference books are published in extremely small editions and are practically inaccessible to a wide range of researchers and collectors. The situation was not much changed by the second of the reference books, which was published in 1994, already translated into Russian, and preserved all the inaccuracies and errors of the original: the dates of the Highest approval of signs are not always correct, inaccuracies in their descriptions, incorrect attribution, in some cases annoying incorrect translations of terms, other minor errors. The volume is 214 pages. A used book.
