Ufa: publishing house "Oriental University", 2003, 764 p. Monograph of academician AVN and The Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor V. A. Kulikov, is the first, one-of-a-kind theoretically grounded study of the history of weapons and the organization of weapons. The author examines this section of military science and at the same time a branch of the history of science and technology in the context of universal history. Although the historiography of the history of weapons has many dozens of books, in most of them the authors, as a rule, limit themselves to describing museum collections or studying the process of development of weapons samples; many publications are of a scientific reference or advertising nature, and the chronological framework of these works is very narrow. V. A. Kulikov, summarizing the experience of historical and theoretical research on the evolution of weapons and the organization of arming peoples and states, considers the subject of his research from a new angle. For the first time, the book outlines — and this, in our opinion, is one of its main advantages — the logical and methodological foundations for studying and describing the history of weapons from ancient times to the present day in inseparable unity with the history of the organization of armament of peoples and states as a type of human activity.
