Gorky, M. On cynicism. Reply to the correspondent; Romain Rolland. Who are you with? The answer to the article by G. Riu "United States of Europe or The United States of the world". Moscow; L.: GIHL, 1931. — 32 pages. Format 18.5*12 cm. In a publisher's cover, decorated in a constructivist style. During this period, Gorky actively corresponded with Western intellectuals, urging them to decide which side they were on —the side of the "creative proletariat" or the "dying capitalist world." Gorky's article, in which he criticizes the moral decay of bourgeois society and the intelligentsia, accusing them of indifference to the fate of mankind. "Who are you with?": This is Gorky's famous challenge to the "masters of culture." The book most likely contains both Gorky's articles on this topic and the responses of Romain Rolland, who actively supported the Soviet Union in those years, although he maintained a certain independence of views. This publication is a vivid monument to the ideological struggle of the early 1930s and an attempt to bring Soviet culture closer to the leading humanists of the West.
