The book "Atlas of the officer", 1947

An original and very massive edition in good collector's condition. This Atlas is intended for officers of the Armed Forces of the USSR, as a visual aid for independent work in the study of political and military geography, as well as general and military history. The Atlas consists of the following sections:
I. Introductory;
II. Geographical maps of the world, continents, individual states; maps of the USSR and its parts;
III. Military-historical maps;
IV. Geographical and statistical information and an alphabetical index of geographical names.
I. The introductory section includes tables and maps that provide general information on cosmography and astronomy; shows the types of the main geographical landscapes of the USSR and their cartographic image; presents samples of the main topographic and special maps published for The Soviet Army.
II. Geographical maps of the world, continents, the USSR and foreign countries are given in four types:
a) special maps of the world, continents and the USSR (climate, sea currents, soils, vegetation, time zones, sea and air communications, etc.);
b) physical maps of the world, continents, the USSR and individual territories; on these maps, the relief is depicted in layers of hypsometric coloring;
c) political maps of the world, continents and the USSR;
d) survey maps, which on the largest scale show the territories of individual foreign states and political and administrative parts of the USSR.
Such a set of geographical maps provides the necessary material for the study of political and military geography.
Geographical maps of the world (political and special) are compiled in new cartographic projections developed specifically for the Atlas by Major General of Technical Troops, Doctor of Technical Sciences Urmaev N. A. and calculated by engineer-lieutenant colonel Candidate of Technical Sciences Starostin F. A.
