Boris Andreyevich Babochkin (5 [18] January 1904, Saratov — July 17, 1975, Moscow) — Soviet actor and theater and film Director, teacher. People's artist of USSR (1963), Hero of Socialist Labor (1974). Winner of two Stalin (1941, 1951) and the State (1977 — posthumous) awards. Member of the CPSU(b) since 1948.
Boris Babochkin was born in Saratov, in the family of the railway. In 1912-1919, he studied in the 1st Saratov real school. Participated in the Civil war. In fifteen years of the Komsomol Boris Babochkin served in the political Department of the 4th army of the Eastern front.
Returning to civilian life, he enrolled in drama school at the Saratov drama theatre under the leadership of A. I. Kanina. In August 1920 he went to Moscow, where he enrolled in two theatre school — Studio of A. Chekhov and M. in the State of the Studio "Young master", where he studied with I. N. Pevtsov, and soon left the Studio of M. A. Chekhov. After the finishing theatre Studio "Young masters", in the summer of 1921 the number of graduates headed by I. N. Pevtsov Babochkin played his first professional season in the theater Ivanovo-Voznesensk.
In 1921, back in Moscow, the actor briefly entered the Moscow drama theatre under the direction of V., sakhnovskaya. In 1922-1923 years — the actor of the Voronezh dramatic theatre (now the Voronezh academic drama theatre named after A. Koltsov), in 1923-1925 — Theater named MGSPS (now the Mossovet Theatre, in 1925-1926 — Kostroma drama theatre. A. N. Ostrovsky, in 1926-1927 Samarkand drama theatre, in 1927-1928 — Satire Theater in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg academic theatre of Comedy named N. Akimova), in 1928-1929 Theatre CER in Harbin, in 1929-1932 — theatre Folk home in Leningrad, in 1932-1936 — the Leningrad drama theatre. A. S. Pushkin (Alexandrinsky theatre now). He also worked in theaters in Mogilev, Berdichev, Pishpek.
In 1936-1940, respectively Babochkin was an actor, in 1937-1938 — the chief Director, and in the years 1938-1940 — artistic Director of the Bolshoi drama theater. Gorky (now named after Tovstonogov), Leningrad.
In the years 1940-1945 — the actor and Director of the Vakhtangov Theater in Moscow, in 1941-1943 — the actor Studio TSOKS, Alma-ATA, in 1945-1949 — actor and Director of Theatre-Studio of film actor, in 1949-1951 — Director and actor of the Maly theatre (both in Moscow).
In 1951-1952, the Director of the National theatre of Sofia (Bulgaria), participated in the operation of the peripheral theaters, taught at the Theatre Academy. Upon returning to the USSR in 1952-1953, he was the chief Director of the Moscow drama theater. Pushkin, and in 1954 — an actor of the Kiev theater of Russian drama named after Lesya Ukrainka. In 1955 Babochkin returned to Maly theatre, where he served as actor and Director up to the end of life.
The biggest directing job, a production of the play Gorky's "Summerfolk", carried out in 1939 at the Bolshoi drama theater (he played the role of Vlas), in 1964 in a Small theater, Babochkin played Suslov (in 1967 the show was shot on film). In the film Babochkin-actor made his debut in 1928 in "Mutiny". World fame brought him the role Chapaeva, played in the 1934 film of the same name.
For many years Boris Babochkin was engaged in pedagogical activity: since the end of the 1930-ies taught at the Studio of the Bolshoy drama theatre, 1944 — VGIK (Moscow), where he led an acting workshop. In 1966 he received the title of Professor. The author of numerous articles, reviews, notes, were published in the journal "Soviet art", "the worker and the theatre", "Theatre", "Light", "cinema Art", "Moscow", "October", the newspaper "Leningradskaya Pravda", "Literary Leningrad", "Komsomolskaya Pravda", "Literaturnaya Gazeta", "Izvestia", "Soviet culture", etc.
Died Boris Babochkin July 17, 1975 in Moscow. According to Sergei Gurzo: "I Went to the car while driving, stopped at a red light gave way to green — and then he had a stroke. Died on the spot. A few hours before that he paid in the theatre got. But neither money nor the things in it were not. Everything was stolen — robbed the dead." He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery (section No. 2).
