History

Mikhail Petrovich Miroshnik (1913-1996) was a Red Army soldier of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union (1943). Mikhail Miroshnik was born on November 13, 1913 in the village of Velikaya Pisarevka (now a settlement in the Sumy region of Ukraine). He graduated from four grades of school, after which he worked first on his parents' farm, then on a collective farm. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he found himself under occupation, and after his liberation in August 1943, Miroshnik was drafted to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. Since September of the same year, he served on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, was wounded and concussed twice in battles. By September 1943, Red Army soldier Mikhail Miroshnik was a rifleman with the 955th Infantry Regiment of the 309th Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front. He distinguished himself during the Battle of the Dnieper. On the night of September 21-22, 1943, Miroshnik, as part of an assault group, crossed the Dnieper River in the area of Monastyrek farm (now in the village of Rzhishchev in the Kagarlyk district of the Kiev region of Ukraine) and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead. During the capture of the bridgehead, Miroshnik personally destroyed about 20 enemy soldiers and officers, and then repelled three German counterattacks. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 23, 1943, for "courage and bravery shown during the crossing of the Dnieper and holding a bridgehead on the right bank of the river," Red Army soldier Mikhail Miroshnik was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 3995. In 1944, Miroshnik was demobilized due to disability.. He lived in his homeland and worked on a collective farm. He died on July 14, 1996, and was buried in Velikaya Pisarevka.
