George Catlett Marshall Jr. (Eng. George Catlett Marshall, Jr.; December 31, 1880, Uniontown, Pennsylvania, USA — October 16, 1959, Washington, DC, USA) was an American statesman and military figure, army general, initiator of the Marshall Plan, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize (1953). He served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army (1939-1945), Presidential Special Representative to China (1945-1947), Secretary of State (1947-1949), and Secretary of Defense (1950-1951).
