History

Fyodor Yakovlevich Falaleev (May 19 [31], 1899, Vyatka province — August 12, 1955, Moscow) was a Soviet military commander, air marshal (1944). Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, he was appointed commander of the 6th Army Air Force on the Southwestern Front. But already in July 1941, he was appointed Deputy commander of the Southwestern Front Air Force, and a few days later, Commander of the Southwestern Air Force. In June 1942, he was dismissed from his post due to a delay in the implementation of one of the resolutions of the State Defense Committee (on the dismantling of RS-82 rockets from fighter jets).

In July 1942, at the suggestion of the Commander of the Red Army Air Force, A. A. Novikov, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the Red Army Air Force, and in October 1942 - Chief of Staff of the Red Army Air Force. In November 1942, on the instructions of I. V. Stalin, his position was called "Chief of Staff — Deputy Commander of the Red Army Air Force," and at the same time he was appointed a member of the Military Council of the Red Army Air Force. He repeatedly replaced the commander of the Air Force during his numerous trips to the front.

In the spring of 1943, he suffered his first heart attack. After returning to service in June 1943, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the Red Army Air Force. In February-April 1944, he was in the hospital due to a second heart attack, but immediately after leaving the hospital he flew to the front. In April 1945, he was again Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of the Red Army Air Force. In these positions, he spent a significant part of his time in the active army, coordinating the actions of several air armies involved in the largest operations. In this capacity, he participated in the Donbass operation (1943), in the liberation of Southern Ukraine, in the Crimean operation of 1944, in the Belarusian, Baltic, and East Prussian operations. During the war, he was promoted three times in military ranks.

In 1942-1943, he was the main representative of the USSR at negotiations on the creation and combat activities of the future famous Normandy-Neman fighter aviation regiment, in 1945 he participated in the Potsdam Conference and at a meeting of military delegations of the allied powers in Norway — England, France, and the United States.
