Ivan Nikitovich Kozhedub (in Ukrainian Ivan Mikitovich Kozhedub; June 8, 1920, Obrazhiivka, Glukhovsky district, Chernihiv province, Ukrainian SSR — August 8, 1991, Moscow, RSFSR, USSR) was a Soviet military commander, Marshal of Aviation (1985), ace pilot. Three times Hero of the Soviet Union (1944, 1944, 1945). Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (1946-62), People's Deputy of the USSR (1989-91). Ace pilot of the Great Patriotic War, the most effective fighter pilot in Allied aviation (64 victories).
