Photo archive from tactical exercises of the 27th Mountain Rifle Regiment at the Suramsky Pass, 1936

The archive includes 20 photographs from tactical exercises of the 27th Mountain Rifle Regiment of the Red Army, which existed in the 1930s as part of the 27th Mountain Rifle Division. The division itself participated in the Winter War of 1939-40, and was later reorganized into the 27th Infantry Division. The regiment itself was probably renamed or became part of other units, since in further mentions the 27th Division already appears with rifle regiments (for example, the 337th). The mountain rifle regiments of the Red Army were intended for operations in mountainous areas (the Caucasus, the Carpathians, Central Asia), which confirms the location of the regiment - the Suramsky Pass on the territory of present—day Georgia. A highway and a railway pass through the pass (the Hashuri —Zestafoni section). In 1932, this railway section was electrified and operation of the first in the world began on it. The Soviet Union of electric locomotives, thanks to which it acquired strategic importance. The average size of the photos is 85*125 mm. The photos, except for one, are not signed. An interesting feature of the images is the guarantee of authenticity.
