Kliment Efremovich Voroshilov, also Klim Voroshilov (January 23 [February 4] 1881, Verkhne, Yekaterinoslav province — December 2, 1969, Moscow) was a Russian revolutionary, Soviet military, state and party leader, participant in the Civil War, one of the first Marshals of the Soviet Union (1935). Since 1925, he was People's Commissar for Military and Naval Affairs of the USSR, in 1934-1940 — People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR. 1953-1960 — Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1956, 1958), Hero of Socialist Labor (1960). Member of the Central Committee of the party in 1921-1961 and 1966-1969. Member of the Organizational Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPSU(b) (1924-1926). Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) (1926-1952), member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1952-1960). Voroshilov holds the record for the longest stay in the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) (Central Committee of the CPSU), the Presidium of the Central Committee of the CPSU — 34.5 years.
