Timofey Alexandrovich Saevich (February 23, 1919 — November 26, 2003) was a Soviet serviceman, participant of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union, flight commander of the 11th separate Vitebsk Reconnaissance Aviation Regiment of the 3rd Air Army of the 1st Baltic Front, captain. A Belarusian. Member of the CPSU since 1943.
In 1942, he graduated from the Engels Military Aviation School of Pilots. Since March 1943, he fought as part of the 11th separate reconnaissance Aviation Regiment, flew on a Pe-2 photographic reconnaissance aircraft. He possessed excellent piloting techniques on a Pe-2 aircraft, brought his plane from enemy territory three times with one engine running. On September 9, 1943, the crew of Second Lieutenant Saevich's Pe-2 performed a reconnaissance flight along the route Ribshevo — Dukhovshchyna — Yartsevo with the task of scouting enemy defenses in front of the Kalinin and Western Fronts. In an air battle with fighter jets, the plane was set on fire, the shooter was killed, and the crew escaped by parachuting. Navigator I. E. Rusanov returned to the regiment four days later. And pilot Sayevich, burned and unconscious (the parachute was burned and the landing was hard), was captured. In the Smolensk camp, he declined an offer to serve in the aviation of the Russian Liberation Army of General Vlasov. Shortly before the liberation of the city, he managed to escape, hiding in a heating main until the troops of the Western Front entered Smolensk. After the inspections, he returned to the regiment. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 23, 1945, Captain Timofey Alexandrovich Saevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal (No. 4181) for exemplary performance of command combat missions and his heroism and courage.
