Vasily Antonovich Saveliev (December 29, 1918, Denesikha, Staritsky District, Tver Province, RSFSR — May 13, 1985, Leningrad, USSR) was a colonel in the Soviet Army, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union (1943). Vasily Saveliev was born on December 29, 1918 in the village of Denisikha (now the Staritsky district of the Tver region). Since 1934, he lived in Leningrad, after graduating from the factory apprenticeship school, he worked as a shaper, studied at the aero club. In 1937, Saveliev was drafted to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In 1938, he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation School of Pilots.
