History

Sergey Mikhailovich Fedyakov (1920-2009) was a Soviet assault aviation pilot, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union (1944). Captain. Sergey Fedyakov was born on November 8, 1920 in the village of Yekaterinovka (now the Bezenchuksky district of the Samara region). After graduating from the eighth grade of school and the school of factory apprenticeship, he worked as a turner at a factory, in parallel with his work he worked at an aero club. In 1940, Fedyakov was drafted to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In 1941, he graduated from the Engels Military Aviation School of Pilots. Since the fall of 1942, he served on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By March 1944, Senior Lieutenant Sergei Fedyakov was deputy squadron commander of the 872nd Assault Aviation Regiment of the 281st Assault Aviation Division of the 13th Air Army of the Leningrad Front. By that time, he had completed 105 sorties to attack enemy concentrations of military equipment and manpower, inflicting heavy losses on him. He was wounded in the fighting, and was seriously injured and concussed when his plane crashed.


By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated August 19, 1944, for "courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against the German invaders," Senior Lieutenant Sergei Fedyakov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 4477.


After the end of the war, Fedyakov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1946, he was discharged into the reserve, lived in Leningrad and worked in the fire department of the USSR Interior Ministry. In 1951, he was called up again to serve in the Armed Forces of the USSR. In 1960, Captain S. M. Fedyakov was discharged. He lived and worked in St. Petersburg. He died on January 4, 2009, and was buried at the Nikolsky Cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg.
