History

Musa Gaisinovich Gareev (bash. Musa Gaysa uly Garayev; July 9, 1922, village of Ilyakshide, Belebeyevsky district, Bashkir ASSR — September 17, 1987, Ufa, Bashkir ASSR) was a Soviet military pilot, colonel, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, participant of the Great Patriotic War. Born on July 9, 1922 in the village of Ilyakshide, Belebeyevsky district of the Bashkir ASSR (now Ilishevsky district of Bashkortostan) in a Bashkir peasant family.


On September 25, 1942, after graduating from the Engels Military Aviation School, he was sent to the front. Since September 25, 1942, he has been a pilot in the active army with the rank of sergeant, in the 944th regiment. In 1944, Gareev was appointed squadron commander of the 76th Guards Assault Aviation Regiment of the 1st Guards Assault Aviation Division of the 1st Air Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front.


On February 23, 1945, M.G. Gareev was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for heroism, courage and bravery shown in battles with the German occupiers, for successfully carrying out 164 combat sorties on an Il-2 aircraft, as a result of which great damage was inflicted on the enemy in manpower and equipment.


For heroism, courage and bravery shown during the execution of 207 successful combat sorties on an Il-2 aircraft, as a result of which great damage was inflicted on the enemy in manpower and equipment, Hero of the Soviet Union Major Comrade. Gareyev deserves to be presented with the second Gold Star medal. M.G. Gareev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on April 19, 1945. In total, during the Great Patriotic War, Gareev flew about 250 combat missions and shot down two enemy aircraft. He finished the war as a major, a regiment navigator. Participant of the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on June 24, 1945.


After the end of the war, he commanded an aviation regiment. In 1951 he graduated from the Frunze Military Academy, and in 1959 from the Military Academy of the USSR General Staff. In 1956, he was awarded the military rank of Colonel. Since 1964, he has been in reserve for health reasons. He lived and worked in Ufa. He was chairman of the Bashkir Republican DOSAAF Committee from 1965 to 1977. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 2nd — 4th convocations (1946-1958), deputy of the Supreme Council of the Bashkir ASSR of the 7th-9th convocations. In 1973, he first published his autobiographical book "Stormtroopers are on target" based on the Great Patriotic War. M. G. Gareev died on September 17, 1987 at the age of 65 after a long illness. He was buried in Ufa in Victory Park.
