Sergei Nikolaevich Sokolov (1913-1983) was a Soviet military pilot and military commander, Lieutenant General of aviation, and a participant in the Great Patriotic War. Hero of the Soviet Union (1944).
Sergey Sokolov was born on October 12, 1913 in Kazan. Russian. He worked as a locksmith. He completed two courses at the Kazan Aviation Institute. In 1935, Sokolov was drafted to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In 1937, he graduated from the Orenburg Military Aviation School of Pilots. Participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war. He entered the Air Force Academy, but managed to study there for only one course. Since July 1941, he served on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
By July 1944, Guard Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Sokolov was the deputy political commander of the 3rd Guards Aviation Regiment of the 2nd Guards Aviation Division (2nd Guards Long-range Aviation Corps) ADD OF THE USSR. By that time, he had flown 197 sorties to bombard important enemy targets in his deep rear.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated August 19, 1944, for the "courage and heroism shown in battle" of the Guard, Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Sokolov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 5096.
After the end of the war, Sokolov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1948 and the General Staff Military Academy in 1955. In 1974, Sokolov was dismissed with the rank of Lieutenant General. He lived in Moscow. He died on August 21, 1983, and was buried at the Vagankovsky Cemetery in Moscow (43 years old).
Candidate of Military Sciences. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Orders of Alexander Nevsky, the Patriotic War of the 1st Degree and the Red Star, and a number of medals.
