History

Alexey Panteleevich Shkulepov (March 8, 1909, Yekaterinoslav — January 19, 1987, Dnepropetrovsk) was a colonel and commander of the 949th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 211st Assault Aviation Division of the 3rd Air Army of the 1st Baltic Front. Hero of the Soviet Union.


He was born on March 8, 1909 in the city of Yekaterinoslav. The Ukrainian. He graduated from grades 7 and the Federal Law School. He worked as a steelworker's assistant at the Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Plant. In the Red Army since 1930. Member of the CPSU since 1932. In 1933, he graduated from the United Central Asian Red Banner Military Infantry School named after V. I. Lenin. A participant in the battles with the Basmachi as part of a combined cadet squad. In 1935 he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation School of Pilots.


He participated in the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. He served in one of the aviation units of the 3rd Air Army of the Kalinin Front. Then he commanded the 949th Assault Aviation Regiment as part of the 1st Baltic Front. By March 1944, the commander of the 949th assault Aviation Regiment, Major Alexei Shkulepov, had carried out 103 combat sorties to attack enemy troops, and skillfully led the regiment's combat activities. In aerial battles, he personally shot down 2 enemy planes. Under the command of Major Shkulepov, the 949th Assault Aviation Regiment participated in the liberation of Belarus and the Baltic States. For the successful completion of combat missions, he was thanked eight times by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. Shkulepov himself led the regiment to carry out particularly important tasks. This was the case in the Belarusian offensive operation, when repelling enemy counterattacks near Siauliai, Jelgava and Riga.


By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 1, 1944, Major Alexey Panteleevich Shkulepov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for his exemplary performance of command combat missions and his courage and heroism.


After the war, he continued to serve in the Soviet Air Force. In 1952, he graduated from the Higher Officer Flight and Tactical Courses. Since 1954, Colonel A. P. Shkulepov has been in reserve. He lived in his hometown of Dnepropetrovsk. He worked at one of the factories. He died on January 19, 1987. He was buried in Dnepropetrovsk at the Sursko-Lithuanian cemetery. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner, the Orders of Alexander Nevsky, the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Red Star, the medal "For Military Merit", and other medals.
