Semyon Mikhailovich Budyonny (April 13 (25), 1883, Kozyurin, Kalmyk District, Donskoy Army region, Russian Empire — October 26, 1973, Moscow, RSFSR, USSR) was a Soviet military leader and commander, one of the founders of cavalry in the RSFSR and the USSR and one of the first Marshals of the Soviet Union (1935), three times Hero of the Soviet Union (1958, 1963, 1968). Commander of the First Cavalry Army of the Red Army during the Civil War. In the early years of the Great Patriotic War, he commanded troops of strategic directions and fronts.
