Dmitry Borisovich Glinka (November 27 [December 10] 1917[1], Alexandrodar, UPR — March 1, 1979[1], Moscow) was a Soviet fighter pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1943), colonel of the Guards (1951), military pilot 1st class (1953). The younger brother of B. B. Glinka.
He made his first combat mission in the Great Patriotic War in January 1942 in the Crimea. In this battle, he shot down three enemy planes and was shot down himself, was concussed, and returned to service. By September 1942, he had flown 87 combat missions and shot down five enemy aircraft in 16 air battles. On September 9, 1942, Senior Lieutenant Glinka, adjutant of the 45th Fighter Aviation Regiment, was awarded the first Order of the Red Banner. In 1943, Dmitry and Boris Glinka participated in both air battles in the Kuban as part of the 45th (later 100th Guards) Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 4th Air Army. By April 1943, he had 15 aerial victories and 146 combat sorties. On April 24, 1943, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (Gold Star No. 906). By August, 14 downed aircraft (62 sorties) had been added to the service record. In July 1943, he attended the Krasnodar trial. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated August 24, 1943, Captain Dmitry Borisovich Glinka was awarded the second Gold Star medal.
In August-September 1943, Captain Dmitry Glinka, Assistant Commander for Air Rifle Service of the 100th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, made 45 sorties to cover ground troops and aircraft and escort bombers, participated in four air battles in which he shot down two bombers and four enemy fighters. On December 29, 1943, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree.
In May-June 1944, the deputy commander of the 100th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, Major Dmitry Glinka, flew 14 sorties and shot down two bombers and four enemy fighters in five air battles. On November 3, 1944, he was awarded the fourth Order of the Red Banner.
In 1945, the deputy commander of the 100th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, Major Dmitry Glinka, carried out 23 sorties to cover ground troops, participated in six air battles, in which he shot down four enemy fighters. On May 13, 1945, he was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky. Participated in the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on June 24, 1945.
