Vladimir Fedorovich Roschenko (1921-1990) was a colonel in the Guards of the Soviet Army, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union (1943). He was born on September 20, 1921 in the city of Vetluga (now Nizhny Novgorod region). Since 1932, he lived in the city of Koroch, where he graduated from high school. In 1939, he was drafted to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In 1941, he graduated from the Chkalov Military Aviation School of Pilots. Since June of the same year, he served on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
By July 1943, Guards Senior Lieutenant Vladimir Roschenko was the navigator of the squadron of the 8th Guards Long-range Aviation Regiment, the 8th Guards Long-range Aviation Division, the 2nd Guards Long-range Aviation Corps, ADD USSR. By that time, he had carried out 190 combat sorties to bombard enemy concentrations of military equipment and manpower, as well as his important facilities, inflicting heavy losses on him. Most of the sorties were carried out at night.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 27, 1943, for "exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time", Guard Senior Lieutenant Vladimir Roschenko was awarded the high title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 1056.
After the end of the war, he continued to serve in the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1955. In 1960, he was discharged from the reserve with the rank of colonel. He lived in Moscow and worked in civil aviation. He died on May 30, 1990, and was buried at the Troekurovsky Cemetery in Moscow.
He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, two Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals.
