Pavel Alexandrovich Kaikov (January 10, 1917, Mezhevo, Tver province — November 29, 1941, Louhi) was a military pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born on January 10, 1917 in the village of Mezhevo, now Konakovsky district, Tver region, into a working-class family. Russian. After graduating from grades 7 and the Federal Law School at the Kalininsky Carriage Building Plant (now Tver Carriage Building Plant), he worked as a turner. In the Red Army since 1938. He graduated from the Odessa Military Aviation School of Pilots in 1939. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. He participated in the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. The pilot of the 147th Fighter Aviation Regiment (1st Mixed Aviation Division, 14th Army, Karelian Front), Komsomol Lieutenant P. A. Kaikov, carried out 67 sorties to attack enemy targets, escort aircraft, cover the airfield, and 110 sorties to communicate and deliver ammunition and food to the partisans behind enemy lines. Participated in 5 aerial battles.
On November 29, 1941, Lieutenant Kaikov flew as part of a squadron to attack enemy troops in the Murmansk direction. While landing at their airfield, the Soviet pilots were attacked by enemy fighters. Despite the almost complete consumption of ammunition, our pilots took the fight. Kaikov fought two Me-109s. He tried to save bullets, but they quickly ran out. Soon, one Messerschmitt withdrew from the battle. He came together with another at an altitude of 150 m in a frontal attack. With a U-turn, the German began to switch to a low-level flight. Kaikov caught up with him and hit the Messerschmitt's tail with the propeller of his I-153 over the very tops of the trees. At the same time, both planes crashed into the ground.
By Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On awarding the title Hero of the Soviet Union to the commanding staff of the Red Army Air Force" dated June 6, 1941, he was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and his bravery and heroism". He was awarded the Order of Lenin.
He was buried in Murmashi, Kola district, Murmansk region. Streets in Tver and the village of Murmashi, one of the schools in Murmansk, and a vocational school in Tver are named after him. There is a memorial plaque on the school building in his native village.
