Viktor Georgievich Ushakov (March 1, 1914, Yekaterinoslav — November 5, 1956) was an aviation colonel, Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born into a working-class family, graduated from grades 6 of an elementary secondary school and a factory apprenticeship school, and worked as an electric welder at the Karl Liebknecht plant. He was drafted into the Red Army in 1934. In 1936 he graduated from the Voroshilovgrad Military Aviation School. He began serving in the 150th high-speed bomber Regiment under the command of the renowned pilot Ivan Polbin. In 1939, he took part in the battles on the Khalkhin Gol River, and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner for his exemplary performance of combat missions. During the Great Patriotic War, he commanded a squadron of the 150th Bomber Regiment. During the war, he flew about 300 combat missions. By Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On awarding the title of Hero of the Soviet Union to the commanding staff of the Red Army" dated November 23, 1942, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for "exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and his bravery and heroism." He died in the line of duty. He was buried at the Vagankovo cemetery.
