Nikolai Ivanovich Maikov (April 30, 1918, Yaroslavl — March 13, 2005, Zhukovsky, Moscow Region) was a flight commander of the 134th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 6th Guards Bomber Aviation Division of the 8th Air Army of the 4th Ukrainian Front, captain of the Guards. He was born on April 30, 1918 in the city of Yaroslavl in a working-class family. Russian. Member of the CPSU since 1943. He graduated from grades 7 and the Federal Law school, worked at a locomotive repair plant, and studied at an aero club. In the Red Army since 1940. In 1941, he graduated from the Tambov Military Aviation School of Pilots. In the active army since August 1942. By November 1943, Lieutenant Nikolai Maikov, Flight commander of the 134th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment (6th Guards Bomber Aviation Division, 8th Air Army, 4th Ukrainian Front) of the Guards, had flown sixty-eight combat missions to bomb enemy troops, causing significant damage to enemy manpower and equipment. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 1, 1943, Lieutenant Nikolai Ivanovich Maikov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal (No. 1275) for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism of the Guard. Since 1956, Maikov finally parted with the sky, but for many more years he worked at the Flight Research Institute as the head of the training unit of the Test Pilot School. He retired in 1994. He lived in the city of Zhukovsky, Moscow region. He died on March 13, 2005. He was buried at the Ostrovtsy cemetery in the Moscow region.
