Viktor Kirillovich Likhachev (1921-1982) — colonel of the Soviet Army (1965), participant of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union (1945). Honored Military Pilot of the USSR (08/17/1973).
Viktor Likhachev was born on September 26, 1921 at Sylva station (now a settlement in the Permsky district of the Perm Territory). He graduated from seven grades of school and three courses at the Perm Mechanical College, and at the same time studied at the aero club. In 1939, he was drafted to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In 1940, he graduated from the Perm Military Aviation School of Pilots. Since December 1942, he served on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By the end of the war, Guards Lieutenant Viktor Likhachev commanded the 106th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 11th Guards Fighter Aviation Division of the 2nd Guards Assault Aviation Corps of the 2nd Air Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front. By that time, he had flown 181 combat missions, participated in 15 aerial battles, personally shooting down 6 enemy aircraft. Thanks to his aerial reconnaissance, the plan of the German troops to launch a counterattack on the Soviet units on the Sandomierz bridgehead was thwarted and control over the encircled group of German units trying to break into Czechoslovakia was ensured. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945, Lieutenant Viktor Likhachev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 7505 for "exemplary performance of command tasks and courage and heroism in battles with the German invaders."
