History

Ivan Pavlovich Vlasov (July 15 [28], 1912, Teryaevka, Saratov province — February 6, 1957) was a colonel in the Soviet Army, a participant in the Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars, Hero of the Soviet Union (1940). Ivan Vlasov was born on July 15 (28), 1912 in the village of Teryaevka (now the Neverkinsky district of the Penza region) in a peasant family. He received secondary education. In 1934, he was drafted to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the Volsky and Borisoglebsky military aviation schools of pilots. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish War, and as a captain commanded a squadron of the 50th high-speed Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 18th High-speed Bomber Aviation Brigade of the 7th Army of the Northwestern Front. During the war with Finland, Vlasov flew 52 combat missions. In January 1940, his squadron contributed to the successful breakthrough of the Finnish defense by Soviet troops, and in February and March, the capture of the city of Vyborg (now the Leningrad Region). By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 21, 1940, Captain Ivan Vlasov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 253 for "exemplary performance of command combat missions and bravery and heroism." Participated in the Great Patriotic War. After graduation, he continued to serve in the Soviet Army. On February 6, 1957, Colonel Ivan Vlasov died in a plane crash. He was buried at the Theological Cemetery of St. Petersburg. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin (03/21/1940, 12/30/1956), two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree, two Orders of the Red Star, as well as a number of medals. A street in the village of Verkhozim is named after Vlasov.
