Alexander Petrovich Osadchy (1907-1981) was a Soviet fighter ace and military commander, a participant in the Spanish Civil War and the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union (06/27/1945). Major General of Aviation (04/20/1945). He met the Great Patriotic War as commander of the 64th Aviation Division, which he assumed command of on June 23, 1941. He fought with it as part of the Air Forces of the Southwestern and Southern Fronts, participated in the Border Battle in Western Ukraine, in the Tiraspol-Melitopol and Kiev defensive operations. Since December 1941, he has been commander of the Air Force of the 24th Army, which was formed as part of the Moscow Defense Zone.
Since May 1942 — Commander of the 266th Fighter Aviation Division. As part of the 2nd Air Army, the division fought on the Bryansk and Voronezh fronts, participated in the Voronezh-Voroshilovgrad defensive operation.
From August 1942 until Victory— he was commander of the 207th Fighter Aviation Division. By order of the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR dated August 24, 1943, the division was awarded the Guards rank and renamed the 11th Guards Fighter Aviation Division for its exemplary performance of command tasks and for its courage and heroism. The division fought on the Southwestern, 3rd Ukrainian and 1st Ukrainian fronts, was considered one of the best in the Air Force, during the war years it also received the honorary name "Dnepropetrovsk", was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner, Bogdan Khmelnitsky 2nd degree. At the head of the division, he participated in the Battle of Stalingrad, in the Middle Don and Voroshilovgrad offensives, in the Battle of Kursk, in the Izyum-Barvenkov, Belgorod-Kharkov, Donbass, Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk, Lviv-Sandomierz, Vistula-Oder, Lower Silesian, Berlin and Prague offensives.
By May 1945, the commander of the 11th Guards Fighter Aviation Division of the 2nd Guards Assault Aviation Corps of the 2nd Air Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front of the Guards, Aviation Major General Alexander Petrovich Osadchy, had flown 39 combat missions to attack and reconnoiter enemy forces, inflicting heavy losses, and shot down a German aircraft in Group 1. During the period from December 12, 1942 to May 5, 1945, the division's pilots under his command flew 23,382 sorties, shot down 896 German aircraft in 872 air battles, and burned 95 more during attacks on enemy airfields.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945, for "courage and military valor shown in aerial battles with the German invaders" of the Guard, Aviation Major General Alexander Osadchy was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 6598.
