Alexander Nikolaevich Yefimov (February 6, 1923, Kantemirovka — August 31, 2012, Moscow) was a Soviet fighter ace in the Great Patriotic War and a military commander. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (26.10.1944, 18.08.1945). Commander-in—Chief of the Air Force - Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR (1984-1990). Air Marshal (04/29/1975). Honored Military Pilot of the USSR (08/17/1970), Doctor of Military Sciences, Professor (1968).
By July 1944— squadron commander of the 198th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 233rd Assault Aviation Division of the 4th Air Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Nikolaevich Yefimov, had flown 100 combat missions to scout and attack enemy troops, airfields, crossings and railway trains.
On October 26, 1944, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Senior Lieutenant Efimov Alexander Nikolaevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal (No. 4845) for courage and heroism shown in battle.
During the war, Yefimov flew 288 combat sorties on an Il-2 attack aircraft, during which he personally and as part of a group destroyed 85 enemy aircraft at airfields (which is the highest achievement among Soviet pilots of all types of aviation) and 8 aircraft were shot down in air battles, destroyed a large number of enemy manpower and equipment.
On August 18, 1945, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Captain Efimov Alexander Nikolaevich was awarded the second Gold Star medal (No. II-73) for his courage and heroism in battle, and on May 21, 1951, his bronze bust was erected in Millerovo.
