The Red Army book is the main document certifying the identity of soldiers of the rank and file and junior commanders of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War. The book was introduced in 1940-1941 as a mandatory official document. It included information about service, participation in battles, awards, as well as property and weapons received. Military personnel were required to always have a book with them. Those who did not have this document might have problems checking with patrols. In the event of the death of a fighter, the document was withdrawn to compile lists of casualties. The document was used until 1946, when the Red Army was renamed the Soviet Army, after which the books were replaced with military tickets.
