Viktor Nikolaevich Denis (real name — Denisov; (February 24 (March 8), 1893, Moscow — August 3, 1946, Moscow) was a Russian and Soviet graphic artist, cartoonist, one of the founders of the Soviet political poster. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1932). During the Great Patriotic War, Hitler became the main character of the cartoons, the main theme of Denis was the denunciation of fascism and the call for retribution ("The Face of Hitlerism", 1941; "On Moscow! Hoh! From Moscow: Oh!"During the Great Patriotic War, Hitler became the main character of the cartoons, the main theme of Denis was the denunciation of fascism and the call for retribution ("The Face of Hitlerism", 1941; "On Moscow! Hoh! From Moscow: Oh!", 1941; "Stalingrad", 1942; "Lightning War", 1942; "The Red Army will sweep the evil spirits to the ground!", 1943; "Fascist headquarters. The Red Army Amendment", 1943; "For the Germans, terrible things are "bags" and "ticks"", 1943; "The fascist vulture found out that we don't have a lamb", 1944, etc.). A poster depicting a worker from under whose hammer shells are flying, crashing into a swastika, was attached to machines on factories. In 1943-1945, the theme of premonition of victory appeared in posters, the stingy color scheme of the works of the beginning of the war changed to multicolored ("Happy holiday on our street", 1943; "A different picture — a view of Moscow and a view of Berlin", 1944, etc.). One of Denis's last works was the poster "The Red Army swept the evil spirits to the ground" (1945). Encyclopedias and critics of the late XX — early XXI century call Denis one of the founders of the Soviet political poster, who influenced subsequent generations of poster artists. According to the definition of the researcher of Denis Y. M. Zabrodina, his artistic talent is characterized by "inexhaustible fantasy and humor of plot constructions, the sharpness of the transfer of portrait similarity and the expressiveness of the graphic image."
