"Shch-309— is a Soviet diesel-electric torpedo submarine of the Second World War, belongs to the V-bis-2 series of the Shch — "Pike" project. During construction, the boat was named "Dolphin".
On the night of November 29, 1939, the boat left Kronstadt and went on combat duty at position No. 17 near the island of Fore to the northeast of Gotland to monitor Swedish ships and implement a long-range blockade of Finland. During the first few days of patrolling, only German steamers passed within sight of the "Shch-309", which were passed without inspection. On December 2, a Swedish warship, converted from a fishing vessel, passed through the boat position. On December 5, the boat received an order to proceed to the base in Tallinn. On December 6, the Dolphin arrived in Tallinn, and on December 12, having failed to undergo post-arrival repairs, it was relocated to Libava.
On December 14, Shch-309 was sent to conduct a blockade of sea communications at position No. 8 to the southeast of the Aland Islands. As a result of bad weather conditions (temperatures up to -30 °C and stormy weather), by the time of arrival at the position, the boat was very icy. Under the weight of frozen ice, the antennas broke off, the antenna racks broke. The waves twice washed away the sailors from the boat, breaking the ice. With great difficulty they were brought on board. On January 17, the command gave permission to return to Tallinn due to the inability to continue patrolling due to the weather. After the end of this extremely difficult campaign, the commander of the Dolphin, S. S. Veselov, developed an acute gastric disease that had not previously worsened. Soon, for health reasons, Veselov was decommissioned from the submarine fleet and was appointed captain of the Smolny submarine base. The position of commander of the "Shch-309" was taken by I. S. Kabo, who had previously commanded the submarine "M-81"
She has made 8 combat campaigns. 14 torpedo attacks with the release of 31 torpedoes. 4 ships sunk:
