The pistol model 1809 was created in the period of transition of the Russian army in semilinearly gauge (17.7 mm). The prototype was a Russian flintlock pistol model 1798. According to historical documents of the 16th of June, 1810, carbines and pistols for cuirassier, Dragoon and hussar regiments were ordered to produce the newly approved sample, and those and others are equal and infantry guns of caliber equal to seven fractions of the English inch. Most likely, despite the fact that the sample pistol was adopted by the Emperor in 1809, to establish its mass production was possible only by the middle of 1810, although he released the gun before, during testing, and preparation for the production of weapons. The gun is sometimes referred to as Russian flintlock cavalry pistol of the sample of 1809, as it was in service with the Russian cavalry. Was used until the 1830s.
