The 81st Consolidated Evacuation Military Hospital for the Mentally Ill is a specialized medical institution of the Military Department of the Russian Empire that operated in Moscow during the First World War. The hospital was opened in the spring of 1915. It became one of the first specialized institutions created exclusively for the treatment of mental disorders and severe psychological traumas ("contusions of the soul") the Russian soldiers and officers at the front. The hospital was located in the building of the Moscow Teachers' Institute on Bolshaya Polyanka. Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna paid special attention to the hospital. She personally searched for a building for this institution, often came there, visited the wounded heroes and brought them gifts (icons, Gospels). The head of the medical institution was a famous Russian psychiatrist and Doctor of medicine, Professor Kornilov.
