A very rare Russian pre-revolutionary penknife in satisfactory condition. The handle of the knife is bone, decorated with the inscription "Memory of the battles in Galicia 1914", which gives reason to speak of the owner of the knife as a participant in the Galician Battle — one of the largest battles of the First World War (August-September 1914), as a result of which Russian troops occupied almost all of eastern Galicia, almost all Bukovina and besieged Przemysl. The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th armies of the Russian Southwestern Front (Commander-in-Chief - General N. I. Ivanov) and four Austro-Hungarian armies (Archduke Friedrich, Field Marshal Gotzendorf), as well as the German group of General R. Voirsch participated in the operation.. The length of the knife in the unfolded state is 165 mm, the length of the blade is 73 mm. The brand of the manufacturer is well read. There are traces of corrosion on the blade, which can be removed by minor cleaning. Guarantee of authenticity. A rarity.
The institution of M. Terebin's metal knives was founded in 1840 in the village of Pavlovo. In 1908, the sons of the founder, Alexey and Vasily, established the trading house "M.I. Terebina Sons". On the outskirts of Pavlov, on their own and leased land from the peasant society, the Terebin brothers built brick production buildings, equipped them with numerous machine tools, steam and oil engines. By this time, there were already factory branches in the village of Varezh of the Murom district of the Vladimir province, the village of Selitba and the village of Vyazovka of the Gorbatov district of the Nizhny Novgorod province By 1914, the Terebin factory had turned into one of the largest enterprises not only of Pavlov, but also of the entire steelmaking district. In 1913, the cost of the factory's fixed assets reached 81,000 rubles, and the total power of the power plants was 215 hp. Terebins produced a wide range of steel products: cutlery, kitchen, folding and fishing knives, daggers, scissors, axes, locksmith and beekeeping tools. During the First World War, the Terebin factory produced various blades – for sabers, checkers, broadswords and so on. In addition, they produced sapper and surgical instruments that went to the front.
