History

The St. Petersburg Life Guards of King Frederick William III regiment had a glorious combat history. On August 29, 1790, the "new" St. Petersburg Grenadier Regiment was formed from the ranks of the Navaginsky and Tenginsky regiments. In 1792, he took part together with other units of the Russian army in military operations in Poland, was in many combat operations, including on August 7, 1794 at Warsaw, and on October 24, 1794 at the storming of Prague, where Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov commanded the troops. In 1799, the regiment was sent to Holland, where it participated in combat operations against the French. During the Napoleonic Wars, he fought in the campaigns of 1806-1807, at Pultusk, Preussisch-Eylau and Friedland. Since the beginning of the war of 1812, the regiment was in the active army, participating in all the main battles of this war. The ranks of the regiment showed courage and fortitude in the battles of Vitebsk, Polotsk, Smolensk, on August 26 at Borodin, and then during the retreat of the French army at Tarutin, Maloyaroslavets, Krasny, Berezin. During the foreign campaigns of the Russian army, the regiment was in the battles of April 20, 1813 at Lutzen and May 8-10, 1813 at Bautzen, August 17-18 of the same year at Kulm, when the French corps of Marshal Vandam was detained and defeated. On March 18, 1814, he participated in the capture of Paris. For his exploits in these wars, on August 19, 1815, the regiment received a special award – badges on headdresses with the inscription "For Distinction". On October 7, it was renamed and named the Grenadier of His Majesty the King of Prussia. From that time on, King Frederick William III of Prussia became his boss, and then successively other reigning emperors of Germany, the kings of Prussia. On March 19, 1857, the name of the regiment was again included in its original name – "S.-St. Petersburg Grenadier Regiment of King Frederick William III."  Subsequently, the regiment distinguished itself in battles more than once, and during the war of 1877-1878 it earned the St. George banners, granted on April 17, 1878. On December 6, 1894, by the Highest Command, the regiment was given the rights and advantages of the old Guard, and it became known as the St. Petersburg Life Guards of King Frederick William III regiment.
